Transforming the space formerly known as “The Joyful Jewel” on Hillsboro Street into THE PITTSBORO GALLERY OF ARTS has been a handoff like no other. Jewel owner, Mariah Wheeler, had one wish upon her retirement—that continuity be maintained. After several fact-finding meetings, a consortium of local artists agreed to try and gather enough interest to form a new entity.

Fine Art and Fine Craft Gallery
Mariah’s dream keepers in downtown Pittsboro are keeping art alive, just in a more formal setting. The “PGA” is member-owned and operated by 32 regional artists—painters, sculptures, photographers, jewelsmiths, along with ceramic, pen and ink, collage, glass, and fiber artists. Nine PGA artists, Jim Aiken, Beth Bale, Rita Baldwin, Lani Chaves, Sarah Graham, Lee Kazanas, Cathylee Mahin, Lara O’Keefe, Barry Udis, and Karen West, are Chatham Artist Guild members.
The Gallery officially opened October 2. Hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10:30am–5:30pm. The PGA follows all the Governor’s COVID mandates to ensure the safety of our patrons and our artists.
