Alexander was born in the city of Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1977, he grew up between the Cantera area in Barrio Obrero and the town of Río Grande.

Alex began to show interest in the arts at an early age and found his inspiration in comics of the time.

Drawing and graffiti were his means of expression during this period. In 1995, he was accepted into the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Puerto Rico where he took classes with great masters of Puerto Rican art such as Rafael Rivera Rosa, Martín Gracía, Pablo Rubio, Susana Herrero, and Jaime Romano, among others.

In 2000 he finished his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Art History. During his time as a student, Alexander participated in numerous exhibitions which had the opportunity to become known as an artist committed to the arts.

In 2001 he began to study jewelry design at the School of Arts and Science, where he obtained his certification. His passion for metals and precious stones was instantaneous. During the two years it took him to obtain his certification, Alexander was trained in wax carving, the lost-wax process, metal casting, welding, among other skills.

In 2003, he decided to do advanced studies in Painting and graduated from the School of Fine Arts in the city of San Juan, where he continued his studies until 2005. In the same year, he decided to move outside of Puerto Rico to the city of New York, where he lived and worked for eleven years. During his time in New York, Alexander Percy was invited to various art fairs and exhibitions in and outside of New York, including the ICA Fair (International Caribbean Art Fair) in 2007 and 2008, Art Shanghai ’08 in China, ArtBasel ’08 in Miami, and ArtHamptons 2011.

In 2013, he won the “Best in Show” award from the Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn, NYC. In 2016, he moved to North Carolina where he currently lives and works on his work. To this day, Alexander consistently exhibits his paintings at Marion Royael in Beacon, NY. He creates sculptures utilizing found natural and industrial parts found on his walks. In 2020, Cataleya Jewelry Studio is born, an innovative concept of genderless jewelry in Fine Silver and other precious metals.

Alexander recently opened his first location in the town of Pittsboro, NC.
