I’ve been working in clay since I earned my ceramics badge in Girl Scouts. Although I didn’t pursue life as a full-time artist until my retirement in 2015, I took ceramics classes in college, studied pottery while in the Peace Corps in Korea, joined a pottery coop in Los Angeles and took classes on and off here in North Carolina. Since my retirement from UNC-CH, I’ve worked in my own studio in northeast Chatham County, selling my work at shows, gift stores and galleries locally, in Winston-Salem and Atlanta. I’ve also sold several items wholesale through Our State magazine and through my website. I would like to learn more about and become part of the artistic community in Chatham County.

The majority of my work is functional stoneware. My inspiration comes from the fields and woods surrounding my studio. Speckled textures and warm clay tones predominate. I love whimsical designs and occasionally integrate them into my work. Mostly birds, flowers and leaves, and the odd lizard or frog. About 20% of my time in the studio is spent exploring new techniques. My studio is equipped with a wheel, pug mill, slab roller, and electric kiln.
