My paintings are intuitive reactions to the subject matter and to the paint itself.
I begin painting by working randomly, with no preconceived idea of the final results.
My purpose is to come up with an appealing composition, incorporating the whole surface in the design.
I strive for balance and harmony in my work, and incorporate texture for depth and energy, using line and color to integrate shapes and spaces that direct the viewer’s eye throughout the painting. Each if my paintings is a narrative that is not necessarily apparent to the viewer. As the painting evolves, I create new passages and develop others, to establish the mood and feeling that I know is mine; the viewer is invited to interpret the content in a personal way, just as my private expression has developed it.
Whatever appears on the canvas, leads me on until I come up with a pleasing design.
Whenever I get to this point, I know the piece is complete, and that is a very satisfying feeling.
