The CAG Education Committee arranges and manages educational programs and events, some focused primarily on Guild members, and others open to the general public. The latter are generally announced and described via the Guild newsletter and on the main education page, which can be accessed by anyone who views the CAG website. Events and programs designed primarily for Guild members are announced and described on this page.
Marketing and Promotional – Strategies for Artists
Sign up now! This seminar is free for Guild artists and their non-paid marketing partner.
This course will present marketing strategies learned in business and apply them to the work of visual artists. Designed for the artist/ businessperson, each class will build on the one before to address branding through the development of individualized marketing and implementation plans a for each artist.
Saturdays, 2-5 pm at the Smelt Art Gallery – We will discuss times and dates during the first class and come to an agreement on what works best.

Screen Printing Workshop
Vidabeth Benson (www.houseoflifeprints.com) will offer another demonstration of Screen Printing in her studio in Fearrington Village. Date and time to be announced. Vidabeth will demonstrate how you can make multiples of your art work via the screen-printing process. As an exercise, participants will be able to print the Guild logo from a prepared screen. Please bring a T shirt or other item to print on if you would like to do this. Please check back here, and specifics will be posted soon. She can accommodate up to 10 people in her studio. The above workshop will be a repeat of the demonstration/workshop Vidabeth offered on June 3rd, where she explained and demonstrated the screen-printing process from start to finish, including various methods of preparing the screen and printing, materials needed, and setting up the printing area.
Additional workshops with Vidabeth can be scheduled for smaller groups of those who would like to further pursue using this medium in their own work.
Rigid and Flexible Molds Workshop
Jane Eckenrode and Louise Hobbs will teach this workshop on Saturday, June 24th, noon to three, to take place at All In One Glass studio.
Jane will demonstrate or show examples of flexible molds used for casting resin, plaster, and cement. Louise will show rigid plaster molds for clay and glass. Glass molds are made to be fired in the kiln.
Several young people in the Emerging Artist Program expressed an interest in this workshop, but it should have a broad appeal to Guild artists and art teachers. Please let us know of your interest.
For Jane’s part in the workshop, she will cover:
- One part and two part silicone molds and examples of latex molds.
- Casting mediums for small 3D sculptures.
- Types of plaster to use with fibers to make lightweight jackets for molds and large castings.
- Discussion of applications to ceramics and other crafts.
- Sources for materials and online resources to learn more.
For Louise’s part in the workshop, she will cover:
- A pate de verre (glass paste) mold from a wax model, and another from a silicon rubber original made by Jane.
- A hand-formed, plaster fabric slumping mold for glass.
- The making of a two-part plaster mold for slip casting clay from a clay original.
- Examples of two and three part plaster molds used in slip casting.
