My art is inspired by my love of animals and our surrounding environment. My work is representational, often with hints to the abstract. I do not do realism. I start each composition with a loose sketch of what I’m picturing in my mind which then develops its own life as I start to add details and lay down color. I love the energy and emotion color provides for my subjects whether its vibrant, muted, or tonal. I’m never fully certain what each composition will become until I pick that first color choice. From there the color palette entwines with the subject to define the final spirit of each piece. I hope for my work to engage the viewer with positive energy, a whimsical moment, and a smile.
I primarily work with acrylic paints. My material choice these days is mostly working on gesso board or paper, though I still use canvas occasionally. My second love to painting is printmaking where I have been learning and experimenting with this medium as much as I can.
