My work is inspired by both the chaos of home life and a longing for serenity, which I find within Scandinavian architecture. I am drawn to the architectural forms, and the simplicity of the individual structures. Through my art, I am able to explore our connection to Home, and the relationship between what we are willing to show and what we work so hard to keep hidden.
My paintings contain bold/graphic elements that are tempered by delicate lines and transparent colors. This balance is a visual echo of the quiet moments carved out within the frenzy of daily life. I paint on cradled wood panels with acrylic paint and collage elements. I work intuitively, building layers and creating a rich visual history until the piece begins to take form. I focus on the composition, while preserving some of the marks, scrapes, drips, brushstrokes and texture that was built over the life of the piece. My work is often inspired by emotion and my personal experiences.Â
