I use common things from nature, most of them items I pick up as I walk and hike—bark, twigs, branches, leaves, rocks, grasses, roots, acorns, hickory nuts, pine cones and needles–what many of us would rake away and consider trash or compost. I use these natural items in conjunction with my handmade paper, sometimes within the paper, other times their shapes embossed into the paper. I use the papers as others might fabric—dying it, embroidering it, doing batik on paper. I use the natural items and the paper to create framed art and also to embellish accessories, such as lamps, frames, mirrors, vases, etc. To me, every bit of nature is art—is unique, is beautiful, is inspirational.
