I enjoy making organic ceramic sculptures, some functional, some decorative. But mostly, I am a clay storyteller who is captivated by the human form, ancient myths, and the natural world.
I want my figurative sculptures and organic pieces to elicit a word, a memory, or a feeling from the viewer…to make them wonder, to allow them to fill in the story of these iconic vessels and the people or forms of nature they represent.
Every piece is constructed by hand, without the use of a potter’s wheel. Working with stained stoneware and porcelain clays, all my pieces are playfully formed from slabs, coils, and a large sense of humor. The clay is rolled, torn, textured, and refined quickly. Frequently, my art is unglazed, or partially glazed, preserving the texture and appearance of raw clay.
