Chatham Artists Guild’s Commitment to Education
The Chatham Artists Guild is committed to providing educational activities and events that enrich and develop awareness and appreciation of the visual arts in Chatham County and beyond. We have several programs currently in progress. Please email us if you have questions about any of these programs.
CAG Art Skills Development Workshop Series
We successfully hosted a five-month Arts Skills Development Workshop Series, thanks to a Grassroots Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, the Chatham County Arts Council, and matching Guild funds. Nearly 100 participants enjoyed ten free workshops covering artistic techniques and professional skills, from watercolor florals and ceramic glazing to business topics like getting into galleries and teaching art. This program fostered creativity and community connections, helping strengthen the arts community across Chatham County.
We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to the workshop instructors—Gretchen Kapity, Susan Baker Cartledge, Rachel Brown, Darcy Szeremi, Kristin Bergsten, Lee Kazanas, Amy and Greg Wandless, Jody Nash, and Kathy Flood—for sharing their knowledge and experience throughout the series. A special thank you to Cally Curtis and Anna Julian for organizing the workshop series and helping make these educational opportunities a success.

Emerging Artists Program
The CAG’s Emerging Artists Program is designed to help aspiring High School Visual Arts Students in Chatham County learn the ropes of becoming a working artist. It is a free, juried program that runs throughout the school year. Participants receive mentoring by professional Guild Artists, hands-on workshops, and displays at local gallery and artists market venues where the Emerging Artists (EAs) show and sell their work.

Chatham County Student Art Show

In 1992, Chatham artists began collaborating with Chatham County Schools on the K-12 Student Art Exhibition each December. That successful collaboration continued in 2005 as a project of the Chatham Artists Guild. The exhibition showcases the work of student artists from K-12 programs across Chatham County. As the time approaches, information about the location and the dates of the exhibition and opening reception will appear in the Guild Newsletter and on social media.
