I am both a writer and a visual artist. I find that my writing and artistic pursuits enhance one another. If I’m stuck writing a chapter of my next book, I take a break and find that I’m more inspired in my studio work. I’ll be working on a piece of jewelry and find that I’ve worked out the problem with my writing without thinking about it directly. Because my mother loved and wore a lot of jewelry, I became fascinated with creating my own designs as an adult, so I have made one-of-a-kind pieces over the years using varied materials, including semi-precious gems, sterling and fine silver, and gold. I’ve always had a passion for photography. Having traveled to some exotic places, I tried to capture images that weren’t like the typical tourist postcard. Lately, I have been exploring the cycle of life in the natural world, focusing on the oft-ignored beauty of a dying blossom or a close-up of nature to form an abstract piece. Often, I create photo montages with two or three images or more.
Some of my jewelry can be found at FRANK Gallery in Carrboro, NC.
