I am always looking for different ways to approach my art, it’s what drives me creatively. I consider portraiture my signature medium . I strive to create a connection with my subject and when that happens it’s communicated to the viewer. I primarily work in black and white so most of my influences include Ansel Adams for his zone system, other greats like Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, Robert Freeman and Annie Leibovitz.
While I fully appreciate the way that Color brings the image to life, I particularly am drawn to the way black and white captures the message that lies beneath the surface of color. I just love the challenge of lighting for black and white whatever the subject.
I do offer private portrait sessions in my studio in North Carolina. We’ll work together to capture images that truly reflect the individual I am working with. My work can range from personal or professional portraits, actor’s headshots, or artistic endeavors. Each session is unique and personal, yet maintains the aesthetic, look and feel that defines my work. Both digital and film sessions are currently offered.

Why so much black and white and so little color? For me, black and white captures the message that lies beneath the surface of color. I do reach for color when the image demands it.
