From an early age I have enjoyed drawing and painting and “making things”. For many decades I designed and made furniture using wood as my medium. As I incorporated curves into the furniture designs, I began increasingly to visualize my furniture as sculptural objects. More recently, I decided to forego function altogether and have been making abstract sculptural pieces using power carving techniques. I enjoy using wood with interesting grain patterns that can become part of the design. Sometimes I use acrylic or milk paint to provide color accents and contrast. The use of curves is particularly important to me as this relates my work to natural forms. I also make jewelry/keepsake boxes as these provide a small canvas for designs that utilize visually interesting hardwoods and veneers and may incorporate marquetry.
