Artist Statement – Claire Bezy-Shaw (Bee EZ)
My work is a reflection of identity shaped by movement, culture, and lived experience. As an artist with a multicultural background rooted in European, African, and American influences, I draw inspiration from the people, traditions, and environments that have shaped my perspective. Speaking multiple languages and having experienced diverse cultures firsthand, I translate these layered identities into visual narratives.
Through my art, I explore themes of community, resilience, and the beauty of everyday life—particularly inspired by African culture and the strength and elegance of women. I am drawn to scenes that capture connection: women in motion, shared labor, quiet moments of care, and the rhythm of daily life. My use of color, pattern, and texture—often influenced by textiles—serves as a visual language that celebrates heritage and storytelling.
My artistic process is intuitive and evolving. Whether working in acrylic or textile-based mediums, I focus on creating compositions that feel alive, expressive, and emotionally grounded. Light, movement, and contrast play an important role in guiding the viewer’s eye and evoking a sense of presence.
At the heart of my work is a desire to bring people together. I believe art has the power to transcend differences, spark dialogue, and foster unity. Through my pieces and community-based projects, I aim to create spaces where stories are shared, cultures are honored, and connections are made
